It’s that time of year again and this year it is bigger and better, with a big touch of wow!
Head down to the banks of the Yarra River to Birrarung Marr. If you would like to have your tastebuds blown away then do wander around and try out some of the many fusion bites on offer. Whether you are a meat lover or a vegetarian there is something that will tempt you. This year mantous, tacos and baos play a significant part of the menu offerings…these are however not what you expect.
The betel leaf burger (with chicken compressed inside with a yummy tempura texture outter) these guys know how to blow your tastebuds with carefully selected spices …their pumpkin and ginger noodle balls are yummy too, check out the Mint Food Group.
So much to choose from: Lady Carolina’s Rum & Pisco Bar looks good however sadly you have to go to their Lygon Street est if you want the Rum…ho hum! Mr Miyagi Tacos: Mr.M’s Potato Gem, Mr. M’s Salmon, Bombay Spider Crab, that showcase the crab in a taco (nori taco shell).
Lots of BBQ on offer
BBQ chicken in lemongrass & ginger from Hoy Pinoy
BBQ at Daniel San
And of course noodles and noodles to string you along.
Extremely good soft shell crab with mantou from ‘Mantou Melbourne’.
Chin Chin had their usual patronage of orderly queues but this year they have quite a lot of competition from the unusual and somewhat bizarre offerings.
Lady Boy has meal worms on offer if you want something rather alternative — I decided to give this one a miss though many enjoyed.
To satisfy your sweet tooth this year Gelato Messina has partnered with Wonderbao to create some gastronomic delights mixing the famous boa which are doughy taco shapes with yummy Messina gelato inside with exquite toppings. One of my favourites was the Bao Chicka Bao Bao which is filled with Peanut Gelato, dipped in milk chocolate sauce and rolled in crushed peanuts this is everything and more than you expect.
Be prepared to queue in a very long line for BSPXN2 (a combo of Sydney’s Black Star Pastry and N2 Gelato) with their waxy cake mash-ups with strawberry watermelon cake and cake smash.
The banana nutella gyoza at Harajuku Gyoza are something different.
The Singleton Whisky & Sugar Bar is superb and if you order one of their cocktails you get a whisky cookie thrown in…extremely yummy and definitely a must…their enclosure makes you think you are at the races …well done boys!
Dodge the Chinese dragon dancers as you whirl around from stand to stand.
Rest assured as you go to leave your eyes will be wondering what more you can eat but your tummy is probably saying hang on a minute this runs for another two weeks so we can return…phew ….this news will certainly help you with your digestion as your eyes really will be bigger than your bellies 🙂
