David Bromley Does It Again: A Spectacular Celebration of Art, Music and Creativity

Melbourne’s art scene was once again treated to something truly special as renowned Australian artist David Bromley unveiled his latest exhibition, City of Angels, at his stunning new studio space. The opening was a vibrant celebration of creativity, bringing together art lovers, collectors, musicians, admirers from across Melbourne and beyond.

From the moment guests arrived, there was an undeniable energy in the air. Bromley’s new studio is a masterpiece in itself – an inspiring creative sanctuary that perfectly complements his bold artistic vision. The space offers a fresh and contemporary backdrop for his work while retaining the warmth and character that have become synonymous with the Bromley brand. I loved the nod to LA with signage of Hollywood, Chateau Marmont and the Roosevelt.

The City of Angels exhibition showcases many of the qualities that have made David Bromley one of Australia’s most recognisable celebrated artists. His works burst with colour, emotion and imagination, inviting viewers into a world where nostalgia, beauty and storytelling collide. Every canvas seemed to radiate its own personality, drawing visitors into Bromley’s unique interpretation of life, culture and human connection. This collection focusses on muses from artists, actresses, adult performers and porn stars. These women create art in their own way and on their terms. focussing on the very beautiful girls in Hollywood, capturing the porn stars tastefully in poses that showed sexy vulnerability and fun.

There were many artworks sold, with spots dotted around the collection claiming them for their new owners. The event was electric with the vibrant sounds of WILSN and Steven Clifford. Followed by DJ Grant Smillie. WILSN band is led by singer songwriter Shannon Busch featuring some wonderful late 60’s soul. While WILSN’s debut album Those Days Are Over earned her the 2023 AIR Award for Best Independent Soul/R&B Album, Bloom takes her sound deeper into the roots of the genre that first inspired her. Recorded live to tape at Brooklyn’s Hive Mind Recording studio, the album was co-produced by Billy Aukstik – trumpeter and music director for Charles Bradley – alongside longtime collaborator Stephen Mowat.I am looking forward to her next tour dates being released.

Bunnie girls walked casually around lending an edgy look to the wonderful new Bromley pieces. The opening attracted a diverse crowd of VIP’s, long-time collectors, industry professionals and definitely the ‘Cool crowd of Melbourne.’ For those fortunate enough to attend, it was clear that David Bromley has done it again — creating an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression long after the final song has played and the gallery lights have dimmed.
