Jazz at Birds Basement with James Morrison Sextet

What a night! We were not only fortunate to get a ‘birds eye’ view of James playing his various brass instruments from trumpet to flugel horn, we also saw him playing the keys. He can play more instruments but from the initial two sets we were treated to these.

We started the night at The Jazz Corner Hotel for an apres glass of Champagne as we were in on the late set which turned out to be his last set of the season at Birds Basement. We knew we would be in for a treat!

Watching James Morrison was a treat along with his two sons on stage, Henry on bass and William on acoustic guitar and vocals whose sultry voice almost bought a tear to James eye — a very proud daddy moment. Completing the sextet were Mat Jodrell on trumpet and Carl Mackey on alto sax, both amazing musicians in their own right putting their heart and soul into the performance. Let’s not forget Patrick Danao on drums.

The audience were very appreciative when they were able to get the band back on stage for three encores.

When booking do book for the dinner it will allow you to get a little closer to the stage and the menu is comprehensive.
